Sources and provenance
Every finding keeps a record of where it came from, attached at the moment it was created and carried with it from then on.
What gets attached
- The source URL or document, and the passage the claim came from.
- The date the finding was made — sources change.
- The model and query that produced it.
Why it travels
Provenance follows the block. Use a finding in a generation and the resulting draft can still show what informed it. This is what makes work checkable months later, by you or by anyone reviewing it.
A claim you cannot trace is a claim you will eventually have to re-establish. Provenance is cheaper than doing the research twice.
Checking a finding
Open any block to see its sources and follow them out. If a source has moved or changed since the finding was made, the recorded date tells you how much to trust it.
